London Marathon Runners
We were delighted to be announced as one of two charities chosen by the Mayor of Southwark for 2016/17. The Mayor is a lover of animals and Southwark’s Animal Champion. She is also one of our Provident Society members and a previous farm manager. Throughout the year the Mayor will be running a variety of events to help raise funds for the Farm and The National Autistic Society.
The Mayor’s Charity have given three marathon places in aid of the Farm. Each runner has been given a target of £1,500 to raise for Surrey Docks Farm. Have a read of their stories and please help support them through their fundraising pages!
My name Is Tom Goody I am at the ripe old age of 20 and am currently employed as the farmyard manager at Stepney City Farm, I started this position at the end of 2016. Previous to this I was the farm apprentice at Surrey Docks Farm.
I have been involved with Surrey Docks Farm for a while with volunteering and employed for 5 years and prior to that visiting with friends from a young age.
I am running the marathon for the farm as I feel raising the sponsors will be a big thank you to all at Surrey Docks and everything they have done for me over the years.
I have not run a marathon of any sorts since school where we would do cross country running, (I did make the top 20 to finish first) but having been in scouting all my life I know that I have walked this far before on several occasions.

I’m Amy, I’m 23 and am currently a student. I’ve been volunteering with the farm on Saturdays with the Young Farmers’ Club for just over a year now, but grew up just across the street, so have been a frequent visitor since I learned to walk! There are so few places like this in London, and the different projects play a really vital role in the community, so I’m excited to be running for such a great cause. I’ve never done any races like this before, but I love to run, so fingers crossed!

My name is Stephen Hopkins and I am 43 years old and work for Southwark Council in the sports and leisure team. I live in West Sussex and married with one son of 10 months old. I have worked in the leisure industry for the last 20 years and have been at Southwark for the last 2 years. With a young baby I don’t have a huge amount of spare time but when I do I love to get out running which gives me a huge boost each time.
I have no connection to the farm. I love running past the farm each week. My wife was brought up on the farm and the importance of this farm to the local community especially in a urban setting is so important to all ages.
My wife inspired me to take up running in 2012 when she was lucky enough to be one of the first people to run on the Olympic stadium track before the Olympics. Since then I have had a goal to run the London marathon but wanted to raise money for Southwark as part of this.
Have done 4 half marathons but need to double this. For me this would be a major life achievement to do this. With a runner with two dodgy knees from various sporting injuries and be able to raise money for the farm would be great.
