Support Volunteer (for adult students with learning disabilities)

We run five different training projects for adult students with learning disabilities at the Farm – Cow Pat, Moo Crew, New Leaf, Farm Produce and Plot to Shop.

Volunteers working with these projects provide one-to-one support to help develop our adult student’s skills and enjoyment. Experience within the area is useful, but FAR more important is a person who is enthusiastic, patient and supportive to our students and understands the focus of the project.

We look for volunteers who can commit regularly for a long period of time. Our adult students take time to get to know volunteers, work closely with them and rely on their regular support.

New Leaf is a weekly training project for adult students with learning disabilities interested in growing and tending their own plot. Students learn horticultural skills and choose what they grow throughout the year.

Volunteers would need to commit to attending regularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays from 10am – 3pm.

Farm Produce is a weekly training project for adult students with learning disabilities interested in using the produce from the farm in cooking and craft work. Students use eggs to bake, plants from the dye garden to dye materials and bees wax to roll candles.

Volunteers would need to commit to attending regularly on Wednesdays or Thursdays from 10am – 3pm.

Plot to Shop is a weekly progression project for adult students with learning disabilities that gives participants transferable horticulture and retail skills. The project aims to enable individuals to take on active roles as volunteers, trainers and earners within the farm and wider community.
Students are heavily involved in our Farm Shop – learning new skills in dealing with the public packaging, pricing, displaying and retailing farm produce.

Volunteers would need to commit to attending regularly on Thursdays or Fridays from 10am – 3pm.

Moo Crew is a weekly training project for adult students with learning disabilities who would like to be involved in the working life of a farm. The project focusses on the specific farming interests of individual students and can encompass any element of day to day farming life.

Volunteers would need to commit to attending regularly on Mondays from 10am – 3pm.
Monday vacancy – please apply!

Cow Pat is a weekly training project for adult students with learning disabilities interested in working with the farm’s animals. Students learn skills in animal husbandry, including feeding, animal care, grooming, incubation, birthing and mucking out. The project supports four long-term students, led by a member of staff and support workers.

Volunteers would need to commit to attending regularly on Mondays from 10am – 3pm.
