Garden Volunteer

Surrey Docks Farm relies upon a team of enthusiastic gardening volunteers on Sundays and Mondays to help look after our green spaces and keep the gardens looking their best.

We have a wide range of green spaces which need tending throughout the year, whatever the weather. We only use organic gardening methods and are always looking to get the most out of our spaces.

Volunteering in this role gives you a great chance to learn more about horticulture, meet like-minded locals and make the most of the outdoors. We also offer free accredited AQA training as part of our Garden Volunteer Programme.

Beginners Drop-In Gardening Group

Please register your interest via the form below. We’ll invite you in for an induction to explain more about the role, cover health and safety aspects and show you round the Farm. You can then join the Sunday group by booking a free slot through Eventbrite. We are currently having a maximum of five volunteers per session.

Do you have at least one year’s worth of gardening experience? Knowledge and experience of organic methods of gardening with ornamentals, herbs, fruit and vegetables would be very useful. You will need to be happy to work independently to complete set tasks.

Advanced gardening volunteers will need to commit to working a minimum of two hours on regular Mondays.

Summer Garden Watering Volunteers
Weekdays 9:30am-11:30am

During the hot summer months there is a lot of watering to be carried out to keep our greenhouse, polytunnel and food growing beds watered and thriving. We are looking for volunteers who can work independently, to carry out a routine but essential task in our peaceful Farm environment.

During this volunteer shift, staff will be busy delivering our training projects for adult students with learning disabilities so we sadly won’t have any volunteer teaching time and if you’re looking to gain skills and knowledge, this role isn’t the best one for you. However we will make you feel welcome, get you set up on your watering duties and invite you to join a group tea break. So if you are happy to work independently, would enjoy some time outside in nature and want to support the Farm’s food growing initiatives do get in touch!

Please register your interest via the form below. We’ll invite you in for an induction to explain more about the role, cover health and safety aspects and show you round the Farm.
