Surrey Docks Farm’s Charitable Objects
The objects of the Society shall be to promote Surrey Docks Farm as a working farm in SE16 for the benefit of all sectors of the community in the London borough of Southwark and surrounding areas and in particular the Rotherhithe peninsula by:
(i) Advancing the education of the public at large, in farming, animal care, horticulture, food production, cooking, nutrition, crafts, country life and other such areas and skills
(ii) Promoting the protection and improvement of the natural and the built environment and the local heritage through sustainable development and best environmental practices.
(iii) Providing city dwellers with the opportunity: to get up close to a range of farmyard animals; to see, smell, plant and cook vegetables and other food plants; and to learn new skills which will enable healthier lives with a lower environmental impact.
(iv) Providing lifelong learning through education, training, apprenticeships and opportunities for volunteering.
(v) Promoting health and well-being and the therapeutic benefits of the farm.
(vi) Ensuring opportunities for people of all ages, social and economic circumstances and walks of life to get involved – from those bringing their skills and experience to those looking to learn new skills, from those with support needs or disabilities to those who would benefit from team work or the company of others.
(vii) Assisting the work of organisations engaged in charitable purposes which benefit the community.
(viii) Promoting any other charitable purposes which benefit the community and its diversity.
To become a member of the Provident Society you must be at least 16 years old. You need to fill in the application below in order for your application to be considered by the Management Committee. You will be notified when you have been accepted as a member and at this point you have to buy a share for £1. Think of it as a membership application fee! Unlike shares in a commercial company this share does not give you any right to a dividend or other payment. It is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
Existing members will be contacted annually in order to complete the below renewal form. If we do not receive an annual renewal form, the Farm will try to contact you directly and if we don’t hear from you, the Management Committee may then end your membership.
